On 11 May 2006, the first test images in visible and infrared channels were obtained with JMA's MTSAT-2 satellite launched on 18 February 2006. The images linked from below hyperlinks and URL are reduced versions of the full images.
MTSAT-2 is a follow-on satellite to MTSAT-1R (at 140°E) and will be in standby at 145°E around this summer, after the on-going in-orbit test.
In the above on-going test, it turned out that a back-up module of S-band telemetry, tracking and command (TTC) receiving system was malfunctioning. However, there will be no crucial effect on operational observation and dissemination to be conducted.
